M is for Midway Point

M is for Midway Point

I don’t know about you, but there’s something about reaching the midway point in a book.  I’m talking about a physical book; it’s not the same with an e-reader.  The book is lying there in your lap, an equal amount of pages on both sides, and that’s when the excitement and sadness starts to creep in.  The exhilaration comes from knowing your about to build up to a climax you cannot yet see, and the sorrow is what accompanies the conclusion of any wonderful journey.  I usually pause for a moment when I reach that spot to savior the feeling, before devouring the rest of the book.

As far as the A to Z Challenge is concerned, half-way home!  This is my 13th post, with 13 still to come.  I have enjoyed this adventure far more than I believed possible.  Yes, it has been A LOT of work, especially in trying to sample as many of the participating blogs as possible, but it’s been worth it because I’ve connected with some amazing people!  As far as my own posts go, there have been some hits…and some misses…but each one was given an equal amount of attention.  My only hope is that I’ve impressed some of you enough to consider sticking with me after the Challenge has concluded.

So here we go.  A baker’s dozen of posts to go and I’m feeling that same excitement and sorrow I do when I reach the mid-way point in a good book.  Enjoy your day off tomorrow!

How has your experience been so far?

  1. I also love the midway point of a book & it wouldn't be the same on a Kindle (if I had one, that is) :)

I decided to do the challenge on a bit of a whim, but I'm really enjoying writing all the posts & connecting with more fab people out there.

  2. Mid-way in a book is when I can't put it down - I race to the end. I'm struggling with a book at the moment - only page 16, very bad - but as soon as I get to mid-way, I'll be flying.

With the challenge - it feels like I've always been doing it. Waking up to 50 or so notifications is starting to feel normal. My inbox will be desolate without them.

  3. It lays better on the coffee table too! I'll be glad when the challenge is over i'm starting to feel guilty about not hitting 500 blogs a day. I just don't have the time.

  4. It's been fun to see how creative people can get with the letter. I had all my first half of the alphabet ready so now I need to work on posts all weekend!!

  6. I like that midway point too - it's a good feeling! :)

  7. My favorite part of the book s the last quarter, because at that point the writer either really knows what they're doing or it becomes apparent that they don't. The midpoint is definitely where you know if they've really figured out what they're writing, but for me, it's all about where they're going.

  8. The midway point is a great place to be. I'm excited and surprised to have reached it here on the A to Z challenge. It was looking a little bleak at the start of the week. =)

  9. I'm glad we're halfway done. My husband's quite irritated because I've not kept up with my "wifely household" duties in favor of marketing and writing. Oh well, I'm having fun with it.

  10. It's been awesome! And my wife has made comments as well, but she knows it's just a few more weeks.

  11. The best part about the middle of the book is you don't have to hold it open anymore. :D

I'll actually miss the challenge cuz then I'll have to think about what the heck I'm going to post. All I've had to worry about this month is visiting people. I can handle that. ;)

  12. I agree!! lol I was kinda hesitant about starting another challenge, but, once I got started, not so bad - with the exception of a couple letters...lol...see you at the end!! :)

  14. I've really enjoyed the challenge. Right now I'm following 78 A-Z blogs in addition to my normal mix of writing, RVing, motorcycling, tech gadgets, simple living blogs. LOL!

I'd say there are probably 20-30 blogs in the A-Z that I will continue to follow. Some I already did, some are RVing or other friends and the rest are new.

I know I'll be doing this next year for sure!!

  15. Thanks for the encouragement. Yay! halfway in A-Z. It's been a great experience so far. Once the mid-point's been reached in a book, then it's usually flying all the way to the end (although, hopefully, when you're half-way you don't know how it's going to end.)

  16. Midway! Woohoo!

I've just gone back to reading physical books after a long e-book phase, and I forgot how good it feels to get to that halfway point when both sides are equally weighted but you know you're about to fly to the end. :)

As for the A to Z challenge, it has been hard keeping up, but so much more fun than I thought it was going to be. I've met so many awesome people. (And I will definitely be sticking around your blog after the challenge is over.) :)

  17. I love your line about waiting for the climax but not knowing what's going to happen. I feel that way sometimes when I'm writing too. :) I didn't realize we were half-way done.

  18. BTW, I follow. I thought I already was though.

  19. For reasons I explained in my post today, I enjoyed the challenge more last year - but that's nobody's fault but my own. I still think it is a wonderful blog event.

As to the centre of a book - I am ashamed to say that I got a B+ in high school on a book report of a book I didn't read. I only read the beginning pages, a few middle pages, and the end pages. Part of me felt bad but the other part of me (devil) felt quite proud that I could understand the writer's story by only reading a few pages - the rest of it I will chalk up to being a writer myself - even back then - and know how to pull the wood, shall we say!

  20. I did some counting (this time without the calculator) and found that we are indeed mid way !!
    Good.

  21. I can't believe we're at the midway point already! The challenge has been a lot of fun but I'm also struggling to keep up with it.

Love the description of reading the midway point of a book, exactly how I feel when reading. :)

  22. All I can think is M is for Midway People Mover. (It's a ride at Disney World.) However, a midway point of a book is much more exciting that the ride.

  23. Wonderful analogy.

I have to admit I'm relieved to cross the mid way point. This has been a lot of work for me. I have met some wonderful people or I would have dropped out. Blogging six days a week with a somewhat prescribed post is more than this scatter brain can take for too much longer.

  24. This has been a TREMENDOUS experience! Can't believe I was hemming and hawing so much about signing up in the first place! I worried I'd get bogged down with all the posting, but have been pretty organised so far, and scheduling posts have made the challenge much less stressful! I've met so many new bloggers, and enjoyed so many cool posts!

Already planning a theme for next year!

  25. I enjoy this challenge more with each post. I hope I can finish out strong.
I've enjoyed all your posts this year too!
    I've met some great people.

  26. Ah, the mid point. Yep, I agree, I nearly always feel that same tug, wanting to keep going, and wanting to hold off on the end.

I'm very much enjoying reading other people's posts for the A to Z . . . absolutely unable to participate at this time.

  27. Now that I know all about the midpoint realization, I look forward to finding that exact spot. Midway is usually a pretty critical place!

  28. Excitement and sadness is a good way to sum it up. Especially if it's the midpoint of the last book in a well-loved series!

  29. The Challenge has been awesome so far! Mmm, a baker's dozen. Donuts. I can't believe the month is half over already!

  30. I've never stopped at the midway point to a book, because I'm usually completely hooked by that point and turning the pages with a vengence.

  31. It's been exhilarating, but tiring--a fun tiring like being at an amusement park all day.

  32. Totally agree about the midway part of a book, excited and sad at the same time.
As to the challenge, I'm really glad I joined though if I do it again next year I'll spend more time preparing, and think a theme is the way to go rather than try to think up random ideas.

  33. You read my mind. I was thinking the same thing today as I hit the halfway point of a book I'm reading.

  34. I can't believe we're halfway through already :-)

  35. I would normally agree, but I got that feeling on my Kindle too, recently, when it said 58%... haha!

Congratulations on getting half-way through! Looking forward to reading the rest of your posts :)

  36. When I'm halfway through a book and loving it, I put it down if I know there's a sequel and pick it back up to finish when the next ones coming out in a month or so...(crazy - I know) but I hate the suffering...

p.s. I didn't know what lithe meant either...

    Have a great day!

  37. I am enjoying the challenge, but posting takes up enough of my time I am missing reading more blogs, and following up with the connections I am making.
