J is for Jack

I don’t have it…Jack, that is. I’ve racked my brain trying to come up with a word that begins with J, one that I could feel inspired to write something about during the Challenge, and I failed. So guess what, you get a free pass today. For those of you participating in my contest during the Challenge (which you can read all about it HERE), here’s my piece of personal information for the day. I’ve been to several minor writers conferences over the years, but the first major conference I attended (in 2012) was the DFW Conference in Dallas. It was a great time and I wish I could have returned again this year.

See you tomorrow?

  2. lol DL. Nice play on words. There is Joy in writing. Jubilation in publishing. Jitters until the first sale. And you down right Jump for Joy when you get your first royalty check. How's that for inspiration?

  3. I read it and thought you were going to not having jack from a writer's view, there you go.. brilliant. You ain't got jack, Jack... wonderful.

  10. Hey, we all get to have a "Jack" day. Yesterday I was busy and lazy and didn't comment. I took the day off. I have to admit I was burnt out. But today I'm back in the saddle!

  15. Love it! Reminds me of a saying I heard someone say once or twice, "I'm gonna jack your jaw." Guess your jaw got jacked today, DL. Short and sweet, perfect for a Thursday. :)

  16. Jack get's around. So does Jackie...I nearly had a Jackie post for the Letter J, until I remembered Jane. Whew...dodged that one...now my only worry is 'Z'.

  22. Probably what happened was, you were Jumped while Jotting down some thoughts on January Jackrabbits. I don't think any of us will feel Jilted :)

  24. J can be a tough letter, but I happened to have one of my favorite topics to cover that starts with J. I've found letters like U and Q to be much more challenging, but that could just be my subject of focus for the challenge.

  25. I'd love to go to more conferences. Have a lovely Thursday!

  26. J is a tough day! It's like the opposite of R, S, T, L, N, E!

  28. I haven't been to a conference yet.

I don't really like people in live settings.

  30. I would love to attend a conference. Sounds like a great deal of fun.

  31. The AWP conference was in Boston this year. Since I could stay with my sister I thought about going. But when I compared the schedule to those of two one-day local conferences, I realized the smaller ones were better for me - at a fraction of the cost.

  32. Jack? As in I don't know 'jack' about fixing cars? That would be me, not necessarily you.

I'm itching to get back to the States, and one of the things I want to do is attend a writer's conference.

  33. Jack Sparrow, Jack Sprat, Jack be Nimble, Jack and the Beanstock...why you had all kinds of Jacks to choose from... :)

  34. Yea, I did something like this for X. Sometimes you just have to admit defeat and move on :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hmm... Would that be Dallas Fort Worth or a Damn Fine Writers conference?

Either way, I'm sure you fit right in. :)

  36. I go to the Midsouth SCBWI conference every fall and would love to attend the big ones in LA or NY, but it's too expensive and difficult to get there. Also, the LA conference takes place right before school starts.

As for J, you could have written about bad sports teams, like those ugly Jayhawks of KU, or Juicy Fruit gum. You'll have to come see what Joyce wrote about.

  39. It's not easy coming up with a word or words for each day. So it's all good!

I'm curious to see what everyone would come up with for Day X.

  41. I love it! Many days I can't come up with jack either. I identify with this one. And I think your contest idea is great.
