J is for Jack
I don’t have it…Jack, that is. I’ve racked my brain trying to come up with a word that begins with J, one that I could feel inspired to write something about during the Challenge, and I failed. So guess what, you get a free pass today. For those of you participating in my contest during the Challenge (which you can read all about it HERE), here’s my piece of personal information for the day. I’ve been to several minor writers conferences over the years, but the first major conference I attended (in 2012) was the DFW Conference in Dallas. It was a great time and I wish I could have returned again this year.
See you tomorrow?

Never mind another day tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
lol DL. Nice play on words. There is Joy in writing. Jubilation in publishing. Jitters until the first sale. And you down right Jump for Joy when you get your first royalty check. How's that for inspiration?
ReplyDeleteI read it and thought you were going to not having jack from a writer's view, there you go.. brilliant. You ain't got jack, Jack... wonderful.

Oh No, Let's Go... Crazy
At least you still posted something and it still somehow starts with a J! Good job!
ReplyDeleteFrom the A-Z neighborhood,
Dee is for Deecoded
I don't know jack either, but I pretend to, LoL ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy A to Z-ing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines
I've been to a Florida one, but never a national conference. One day.
ReplyDeleteI can understand Z, but J? LOL.
ReplyDeleteYou know... the dictionary is a good place to look for words... :) But jack works, so don't sweat it.
ReplyDeleteToday's post was a chance to be spontaneous!

Hey, we all get to have a "Jack" day. Yesterday I was busy and lazy and didn't comment. I took the day off. I have to admit I was burnt out. But today I'm back in the saddle!

We don't mind. Even not having Jack was creative! New day tomorrow and you'll be inspired.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the DFW Conference?
ReplyDeleteThat is one conference I have wanted to attend
ReplyDeleteno J? how sad
Well J reminds me of Jack in the Box and now I am hungry for two tacos for a buck. Have a good one and your postings are great.

I'm also doing the A to Z Challenge with around the world nature pictures.
At least you came up with Jack! That's worth some points. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove it! Reminds me of a saying I heard someone say once or twice, "I'm gonna jack your jaw." Guess your jaw got jacked today, DL. Short and sweet, perfect for a Thursday. :)
ReplyDeleteJack get's around. So does Jackie...I nearly had a Jackie post for the Letter J, until I remembered Jane. Whew...dodged that one...now my only worry is 'Z'.

WHAT!? There is a free pass day? I'm stumped on the letter "O" - I'm hoping inspiration will strike before post day.

HA!
ReplyDeleteThe day I finally found time to visit you DL you take the day off! Just my luck...LOL
Sometimes, not doing Jack is just what is in order!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a conference. :(
ReplyDeleteProbably what happened was, you were Jumped while Jotting down some thoughts on January Jackrabbits. I don't think any of us will feel Jilted :)
ReplyDeleteTomorrow is another day!
You don't know Jack...
ReplyDeleteYes, "J" is a difficult one...
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your work involved with the Challenge!

J can be a tough letter, but I happened to have one of my favorite topics to cover that starts with J. I've found letters like U and Q to be much more challenging, but that could just be my subject of focus for the challenge.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to go to more conferences. Have a lovely Thursday!
ReplyDeleteJ is a tough day! It's like the opposite of R, S, T, L, N, E!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to going to a conference some day. i've heard so many good things!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to a conference yet.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like people in live settings.
:)

The biggest conference I've ever attended was Book Expo America. That blew my mind!!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to attend a conference. Sounds like a great deal of fun.
ReplyDeleteThe AWP conference was in Boston this year. Since I could stay with my sister I thought about going. But when I compared the schedule to those of two one-day local conferences, I realized the smaller ones were better for me - at a fraction of the cost.
ReplyDeleteJack? As in I don't know 'jack' about fixing cars? That would be me, not necessarily you.
ReplyDeleteI'm itching to get back to the States, and one of the things I want to do is attend a writer's conference.
Jack Sparrow, Jack Sprat, Jack be Nimble, Jack and the Beanstock...why you had all kinds of Jacks to choose from... :)
ReplyDeleteYea, I did something like this for X. Sometimes you just have to admit defeat and move on :)
ReplyDeleteHmm... Would that be Dallas Fort Worth or a Damn Fine Writers conference?
ReplyDeleteEither way, I'm sure you fit right in. :)
I go to the Midsouth SCBWI conference every fall and would love to attend the big ones in LA or NY, but it's too expensive and difficult to get there. Also, the LA conference takes place right before school starts.
ReplyDeleteAs for J, you could have written about bad sports teams, like those ugly Jayhawks of KU, or Juicy Fruit gum. You'll have to come see what Joyce wrote about.

"J" is a tough letter. I also had "issues" with Mr. "J". You handled him well.
ReplyDeleteAt leat nobody can accuse you of not *knowing* Jack. ;)

It's not easy coming up with a word or words for each day. So it's all good!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to see what everyone would come up with for Day X.
Hi DL .. you put a joker in the pack didn't you!! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI love it! Many days I can't come up with jack either. I identify with this one. And I think your contest idea is great.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't attended a writer's conference! Would love to try Surrey, BC one year...
ReplyDeleteJack-in-a-box, Jack of all trades, Jack and Jill, Jack-o-lantern, Jumping Jack - how about those for some Jacks?!
ReplyDeleteCheers from Brandy at http://brandysbustlings.blogspot.ca/
