Prompted by the creative mind of Nicki Elson, I bring you my entry
for the I’LL
TUMBLE 4 YA Blogfest. We are
supposed to Post a picture, video, or
whatever of the celebrity you most tumbled for in the 80s---along with your
feeble justifications, of course.
If it were not for the celebrity
limitation, I’d be telling you about my best friend and future wife right
now. We met in 1981 and were married in
1983, so obviously I devoted a good portion of the eighties crushing on
her. But we are supposed to select a
celebrity, so I’ll follow the rules and reveal the personality that I most
hearted back then.
Yep…Halloween girl herself…Jaime Lynn Curtis. Although the movie was officially released in
1978, I didn’t get around to seeing it for a couple years and that’s when my
infatuation with JLC began. She exuded
that “girl next door” persona that I responded to. And even as her career took
off (Halloween 2, The Fog, Trading Places, Perfect, A Fish Called Wanda, True
Lies, etc…) and she adopted more of a sex appeal image, to me she still
maintained that endearing quality I enjoyed.
So, there you have it…my youthful crush exposed. What a wonderful journey down memory lane
this turned out to be! Thanks Nicki!! :)
Hey DL,
ReplyDeleteAh man, I forgot about her!! I'm doing the hop, too, and stopped at Molly Ringwald:)
It was fun looking back :)
I loved her in a Fish Called Wanda.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be a fun day!
I loved her in True Lies - the only woman who could look good after pouring a vase of water over herself!
ReplyDeleteI like JLC But never crushed on her.:) Nice choice.
ReplyDeleteI've always liked her. Umm..the bottom photo is scandalous. She's sort of screaming sex in that picture. I thought she was just the girl next door.
ReplyDeleteCurtis was really hot. Especially in True Lies. And she looks really good now that she's in her fifties as well.
ReplyDeleteI never saw the Halloween movies, even though I'm a horror movie fan. I loved JLC in Freaky Friday - she's still great after all these years.
ReplyDeleteNice choice, Don!
ReplyDeleteI'm not doing this blogfest, but it's a good topic. I'm not 100% sure who I'd pick, although Teri Garr pops into my head as a very strong candidate... ;^)
Halloween scared the hell out of me. I'm still get nervous just hearing the music! Jamie Lee Curtis was great in Fish Called Wanda too.
ReplyDeleteSo at this point in our lives, are we all taking the Activia challenge? At least she does it in style ;)
ReplyDeleteDamn, that second photo is a bit racy for what little I know of JLC! But I love her, she seems so fun and quirky. I missed out on this blogfest but I'm gonna be jumping around to see other crushes!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever heard how she met her husband, Christopher Guest? She saw him in either a play or show and came up afterwards as a gushing fan.
ReplyDeleteI was a big Jamie Lee Curtis fan back in the day. When she went topless for the brief moment in Trading places it was an amazing moment. Totally unexpected but very much welcomed and appreciated!
ReplyDeleteYeah, JLC's one cool chick. Nice choice! And how lucky that you met & snagged your life-crush in the 80s.
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing this fest, and now I'm up to vote on time for WRiTe Club for once.
I always liked Jamie Lee. She was excellent in True Lies. And she is aging realistically like most of the rest of us.

Jamie Lee! My friend/roommate in college looked so much like her.
ReplyDeleteI love that your '80s crush was your wife. And let me add that I have a lot of respect for you being the major breadwinner and writing, as well. I wish you so much success.
ReplyDeleteJLC is fabulous! She's beautiful and a flexible actress.
ReplyDeleteIt's so sweet that your main 80's crush was your wife. What a great guy!
ReplyDeleteI've always liked her work in movies. She is a good one to crush on.
ReplyDeleteThat is quite the picture of Jami Lee Curtis! I never thought of her as sexy, but I guess she did a great pole dance in True Lies, after all!
ReplyDeleteGreat pick! She's awesome. I loved her in a Fish called Wanda. And she writes picture books (but better ones than the usual celeb pbs).
ReplyDeleteLove the fact that your true 80's crush is your wife. That's why you're one of the 'good guys'.
ReplyDeleteLove 'True Lies' but sadly (and I mean SADLY in a lot of ways) I was definitely more attracted to Arnold.
Then there's that second picture of JLC - OMG and, and, and, I don't even know what to say.
Have a great weekend.
Wow, she looked a lot different back then. My favorite Jamie Lee Curtis role hands down is A Fish Called Wanda. That entire cast was brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI remember her from a few movies... Hmm I think my hubby has a crush on her too:)
ReplyDeleteGreat choice! Trading Place is one of my all-time favorites - just a fantastic ensemble cast and an underrated screenplay.
ReplyDeleteJamie still has a rockin' body. I'm so jealous!! Love her cuz she's super funny. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteI only just saw TRUE LIES recently, and she was definitely hot - nice pic DL!!
